Writing Into The Day: Write About A Book That Has Had Great Influence On Me

Just Enought Light for The Step I'm On: Trusting God In Tough Times by Stormie Omartian I purchased at a garage sale. I am not one to re-read a book I own. I, traditionally, read and pass on. This book, however, is EXACTLY where I am in my spiritual journey. My last baby chick is about to leave the nest. My daughter is leading a wonderful and busy life. Jim and I are growing old gracefully together. My folks are aging reluctantly. These are all precious times, yet challenging time as we transition to another season of our lives.
Each morning, before my day begins, I get on my treadmill and enjoy 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading. I've gone through all 21 chapters of this wonderful book. I'm on my second time through. the interesting thing is that the ideas she is sharing are nothing new. I know the Bible verses from earlier studies. She just puts it into a new format.
Her chapters are:
  1. Learning to walk
  2. beginning to see the light
  3. Refusing to be afraid of the dark
  4. Embracing the moment
  5. Dancing in the footlights
  6. Paying your light bill
  7. Standing in the line of fire
  8. Seeing what's right with this picture
  9. Tesint, one, two, three
  10. Knowing how to pack for the wilderness
  11. Surrendring your dreams
  12. Waiting in the wings
  13. expecting a call
  14. believing it's not over till it's over
  15. Surviving disappointment
  16. Traveling through the dark moments of relationships
  17. Walking in the mids of the overwhelming
  18. Reaching for God's hand in times of loss
  19. Stepping out of the past
  20. Maintaining a passion for the present
  21. Moving into your future
A brief reflection reminds me that my life is wonderful! Indeed, I'm greatly blessed. My dad doesn't have cancer, my husband is faithful to me, my kids aren't on drugs, indeed I have much to be thankful for. I am. I guess these are just uncharted waters. I'm a little shy to jump in. I'm reminded of a verse from Psalm 138:7 which reads: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand.....Your right hand will save me. It's just like when I was learning to swim, and I'd jump into my daddy's hands. I could trust him. He'd be there. I don't have to be afraid. What a blessing!
She bluntly says: "People who say the bible isn't relevant tofay obbiously don't know the Author." I guess that's one reason I enjoy her writing. She brings scripture to life in a new way. I also know that the book was written through pain. She learned the lessons she writes about.
This book reminds me that reading the Bible, meditating on God's word, and communicating with Him, must be "renewed, revitalized, and solidly reestablished daily." I find it interesting in the class that we stress writing each day. I agree, it is important to write each day. How much more important is it to commune with the Father, and be Spiritually renewed?
I like this book because I can daily apply it to my life. I love the way Stormie weaves scripture into her prayer. Page 52 reads, Lord, shine the light of Your Word on the path of my life today. Make it a lamp for my feet so that I do not stumble. Bring it alive in my spirit so that it illuminates my mind and soul. Let it be a gude for every decision I make, every step I take. Keep me from turning to the right or the left so that I will stay on the narrow path that leads to life. Help me daily to carve out time to be alone with You and to feed on Your Truth. "Oh, how I love Yor law! I is my mdeitation all the day" (Psalm 119:97). Open my eyes to see new treasure every time I read or hear it. Speak to me and comfort my heart. Make Your Word come alive in me and use it to noursih my soul and spriti like food does for my body. align my heart with Yours and give me revelation and guidance so that I may know Your will for my life. Shine the lamp of Your truth where I am right now and show me the next step to take.
I couldn't have said it better myself!

Have you ever felt alone and unloved? Marta's abusive father drives her away from on the eve of World War 1. Tearfully, she remembers her mother encouraging her to leave her home and "fly" as an eagle, leaving the oppressive home life behind.
Francine Rivers artfully weaves the social issues of pre World War 1 women as they struggled for identity. Will Marta’s flight to Canada bring her happiness? Will she finally own and run a boarding house? Will she find marriage and have a family? Will her faith in God b brought to a new level? These values are masterfully addressed in this 450 page novel. This is the second book of Marta’s Legacy.
